National Shades Day
Did you know that there is a 1 in 17 chance that an individual will be diagnosed with melanoma in a lifetime? Everyone needs to be aware of the risk of skin cancer, in particular melanoma - its deadliest form. In 2005 there were 10,684 melanoma cases diagnosed in Australia, making it the fourth most common cancer in the country. It is predicted that this number will increase to more than 12,500 cases by 2010.
The good news is that prevention of melanoma is possible through reduced exposure to ultra violet rays. The Melanoma Institute of Australia is spreading the word through activities on National Shades Day on Saturday, September 5.
National Shades Day aims to raise awareness of melanoma and skin cancer, in particular among 13-39 year olds who are most at risk. The Day encourages people to take preventative measures to reduce sun exposure and to raise much needed funds for the Melanoma Institute of Australia (MIA) to carry out its world-class research into the causes, detection, treatment and management of melanoma.
Bridge Toyota along with all Toyota Dealerships across Australia are campaigning to raise awareness and
funds for the Melanoma Institute.
In an effort to help the Melanoma Institute raise funds for research, prevention and treatment of the
disease that claims over 1,270 lives a year – Toyota Australia has dedicated a 4 day event from the 4th to the
7th of September to this cause.
Donations to this great cause can be made at Bridge Toyota Darwin and/or Palmerston New, Used and Service Departments and all donations are Tax deductible.
Order a new Toyota between Sept. 4th and 7th, and Toyota will donate $100. Toyota Financial Services will donate a further $50 for approved finance applications for new Toyota vehicles^. Save on a great deal and help save lives at your participating Toyota Dealer this weekend.
^ Donations only for purchases by private and bronze fleet buyers at participating dealers.
Bridge Toyota gets its hands dirty for National Tree Day
In the lead up to Schools’ Tree Day on July 25, Bridge Toyota is supporting junior tree planters from a number of local schools by providing plants.
Planet Ark, together with assistance from Toyota’s National Dealer Network, encourages people from all age groups and communities across the country, to come together and plant trees to repair, revegetate and restore Australia’s landscape.
Dealer Principal, Steve Harris, said that Bridge Toyota is proud to be participating in National Tree Day, which is regarded as Australia’s most successful tree planting event.
“Schools’ Tree Day is an excellent way to bring the community together to plant trees and give something back to the environment. Just one tree has the capacity to absorb more than a tonne of carbon over the course of its lifetime so it’s not hard to make a difference,” he said.
“It’s inspiring to see how much the students care about the environment and how motivated they are in encouraging the grown-ups to do something about it,” he said.
Schools played an important role in last year’s efforts which saw more than 1.2 million tress, shrubs and grasses planted at 3,100 sites around the country.
Toyota’s association with National Tree Day has spanned the past nine years, and reflects its efforts to support the environment and local communities through an event that has both a direct environmental impact and the capacity to influence attitudes.
National Tree Day is just one way that Toyota supports its local communities. Other initiatives include the Toyota Good for Footy program and the Toyota Community Spirit program which works with organisations including Australian Business Arts Foundation and Conservation Volunteers Australia.
National Tree Day is brought to you by Planet Ark, in association with Toyota. To find out more about National Tree Day go to: www.toyota.com.au/treeday call 1300 88 5000 or visit your local participating Toyota Dealership.
